Olivia Rodrigo has teamed up with Chappell Roan for a remix of her hit song “expectations.” The collaboration marks Chappell’s first-ever feature, and she brings her unique, playful, lyrical spin to the standout track from Olivia’s critically acclaimed album you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.
When you think about Chappell and Olivia, you think friendship. For years, the two have built a meaningful bond, starting with Chappell opening for Olivia during her “SOUR” tour, and now Chappell is breaking the glass ceiling of the music industry herself, headlining major festivals and breaking records across the country with her hit music. That support has gone both ways: Chappell performed at Olivia’s inaugural women-led music festival, Daisy Chain Fields, at Great Park in Irvine, California, which raised $20 million for 10 nonprofit organizations dedicated to advancing and advocating for women and girls.
Now, the two are collaborating again on the remix and a new music video. Directed by Bardia Zeinali, the video features Rodrigo and Roan as different characters going head-to-head in a retro game show, “The Big Expectations Show,” moving through nostalgic games from classic ’80s and ’90s game shows. The show is hosted by David Byrne, with a special appearance by Dan Nigro.
Later this month, Roan will host her own charity fundraiser, The Super Graphic Spectacular and The Super Graphic Block Party, a two-day, Los Angeles–based charity fundraiser that features live entertainment, volunteer opportunities, and meaningful community engagement. All net proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to The Midwest Princess Project to help provide resources for trans youth & LGBTQ+ communities. Find more information here.
Never underestimate the power of female friendships. Olivia and Chappell are proof.
